CruXpert Version 2.0 comes in four editions. They are
CruXpert Version 2.0 Trial
This is an edition of CruXpert meant purely for evaluation purposes. With this version, you will be able to develop tiny knowledge bases of 25 rules or less. The Trial edition is not meant for hosting applications on any Web server.CruXpert Version 2.0 Lite
This is a commercial edition of CruXpert meant for developing small applications for Web page enhancement. With this edtion, you will be able to develop small knowledge bases of 50 rules or less. The Lite edition can be used to host a limited number of the developed application on any Web server of your choice.CruXpert Version 2.0 Standard
This is a commercial edition of CruXpert meant for developing medium sized applications for Web page enhancement. With this edtion, you will be able to develop large knowledge bases of 250 rules or less. The Standard edition can be used to host a limited number of the developed application on any Web server of your choice.CruXpert Version 2.0 Pro
This is a commercial edition of CruXpert meant for developing large applications for Web page enhancement. With this edtion, you will be able to develop huge knowledge bases of unlimited (10000) rules or less. The Pro edition can be used to host any number of the developed applications on any Web server of your choice.
Knowledge Based Applications developed using CruXpert are compiled into highly efficient and compact Java class files. This increases the speed of CruXpert applications as they run directly on the Java Virtual Machine(Java VM) without being interpreted. This offers a significant advantage while developing time critical embedded applications. Moreover, with the advent of Java Chips, CruXpert can be used to develop complex, rule based applications for embedded controllers. To make this possible Ultrexx Corporation is releasing CruXpert API that provides the class library and API documentation for developing embedded applications.
Yes, it is possible to build applications using the visual tool CruXpert Graph Builder. This is a separate tool that works with CruXpert Version 2.0 to add visual development capability. With this tool, knowledge bases can be developed in minutes by visually creating the consultation sequence through a graph and subsequently converting this graph into Java classes, ready for publishing on to the server. In addition, this tool facilitates the saving of these knowledge graphs as CKRL program for those interested in enhancing the application with other features of the language. Please make sure you have installed CruXpert prior to the installation of this tool.
CruXpert has three components, namely,
- CruXpert Knowledge Representation Language(CKRL) compiler
- Inference engine
- Target Application Interface Template(TRAIT)
The CKRL compiler converts the knowledge base into a JAVA program. In order for the knowledge base to be integrated with the Inference engine and TRAIT, the Java program has to be compiled into a portable format called 'Byte code' which will be created through a Java compiler (like the one available in JDK 1.0.2).
There is no charge for this download. Please follow the directions below to correctly download the program:
- Connect to the Internet
- Go to the JavaSoft home page----(http://www.javasoft.com)
PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION OF INTERNET PAGES ARE AS THEY WERE ON JUNE. 1997. THEY MAY CHANGE. THE DESCRIPTIONS WILL GIVE YOU A GENERAL IDEA OF THE INFORMATION/LINK TO LOOK FOR.- On the left side of the Javasoft home page, click on Download
- On the Java Download Directory screen click on JDK 1.0
- The next page, titled JavaSoft and "The Java Developers Kit Version 1.0.2"-- click on "How to download the JDK"
- Next page, under "Downloading Instructions", click on "Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95".
- Next page, under "Downloading Instructions for Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95", please go through the copyright notice and the README before proceeding to the next step.
- Same page under "Step 1: Download", click on the ftp.
- The line will read something like:
ftp://ftp.javasoft.com/pub/JDK-102-win32-x86.exe- You should read the instructions on this page referring to Removing previous versions, Unpacking and Updating environmental variables.
- Upon clicking this link, the "Save As" box will come up. Create a folder called JDK under the root directory of the default drive(eg. C:). Double click the newly created folder JDK to enter it. Click on SAVE. Please note that you have to perform all these actions in the same dialog box.
- The file will be downloaded to the JDK folder in c:\
- Exit or minimize the Internet.
- On the Desktop, double click on the icon "My Computer" to open a folder.
- In the folder double click the default drive icon (e.g. c:\ ).
- Double click on the JDK folder.
- Double click on the JDK 1.0.2 icon
- The program will unzip via a DOS screen. When finished, close the DOS screen.
- Click on START and then RUN. Type EDIT C:\autoexec.bat and enter.
- Go to the end of the file and type the following:
SET PATH=c:\jdk\java\bin;c:\CruXpert20\bin;c:%PATH%
SET CLASSPATH=c:\jdk\java\lib\classes- Open the FILE menu and choose save. Then close the DOS editor.
- To have the Autoexec.bat changes take effect, please restart the computer.
Currently there are two ways to build a knowledge base. They are
- Using the CruXpert Application Builder(CAB) that is bundled with the product distribution
- Using conventional text editors like Notepad, Edit etc.
To develop using CAB, go through the CAB User's Guide which is accessible through the Help->Help Topics on the CAB main menu. There are some advantages of developing applications using this method. You can develop, compile and run the knowledge base application without leaving the CAB. CAB even has a feature to publish the knowledge base and its support files on a WEB server of your choice.
To develop and test the knowledge base using other editors requires you to be familiar with that editor. If you want to create the Knowledge Base using an editor available on Windows 95 use the Notepad. You could invoke the Notepad through Start->Accessories->Notepad starting from the Windows' Task Bar. Please refer to the CruXpert User's Guide for a step by step procedure.
CruXpert Application Builder (CAB) is a Windows 95 application developed using Visual C++ 5.0 and hence it does not run on platforms other than Windows 95.
TRAIT is an acronym for TaRget Application Interface Template. It refers to the user interface portion of any knowledge base application developed using CruXpert. TRAIT can be customized using the PARAM facet of the knowledge base TITLE. Please go through the CKRL Reference Manual for more details.
